COVID-19: Ondo Assembly Deputy Speaker distributes food to constituents

As the economic effects of the global pandemic; Coronavirus bites harder on the people, the deputy speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr. Ogundeji Iroju has distributed food and relief materials to his constituents.

Mr. Iroju who is a second timer in the ninth assembly representing Odigbo constituency I, said, after measuring the outcry of the people in his constituency during the global crisis, it became necessary to put things together to ensure their wellbeing during the lockdown declared by the government without an end in sight in no distant time.

In his words “I put this palliative program together to ensure the wellbeing of my people in this era of lockdown as declared by the government which may not end soon. I may not be able to satisfy everyone but the impact of this would be felt across the board. I am doing this as the representative of the people to support the government”.

The distribution of the food items which took place at St. Marks Mega School, Ore as monitored by our correspondent; the items were 2500 bags of rice (3kg), 200 packs of mama gold semovita and 100 packs of indommie instant noddles.

Items were allocated to Wards, religious groups, student associations, youth groups, market women, drivers’ and motorcycle operators’ association among others. Food items were also directly given to people in attendance without political coloration.

Shortly after sharing the food items, Mr. Iroju expressed satisfaction with the turnout of the people. He encouraged them to continue to observe social distancing, avoid handshake, apply sanitizer, regular handwashing, and stay at home as directed by the government of Ondo state.

Miss Bunmi Olaoluwa who was a beneficiary thanked the lawmaker for the gesture and called on the federal government to come to the aid of Nigerians especially youths who are unemployed whom she said they should be catered for during the and after lockdown.
