Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming gubernatorial election has said that the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, is qualified to be the next Ondo State governor.
Governor Akeredolu revealed this while featuring on Arise TV program, on Monday.
He said the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede was more learned and qualified to be Ondo State’s next governor unlike the Deputy Governor and the Zenith Labour Party’s (ZLP) gubernatorial candidate, Agboola Ajayi.
Governor Akeredolu said, “he (Eyitayo Jegede) is a worthy what I will call adversary, I mean, I don’t see anything wrong with him, somebody who I have a lot of respect for. Eyitayo Jegede is my colleague, is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and he is worthy of the office (of the state governor).
“For me, Tayo is a gentleman, good, worthy of the office as I said, I have nothing against him. He is exercising his fundamental (human) right to want to run for this office.
“He is entitled to it and whatever happens at the end of the day as we did last time (in the year 2016 election), we remain friends, we will still remain friends because is a friend.
He went further and said, “Look at him (Eyitayo), I can even jump to the issue of (former governor Olusegun) Mimiko, this is a man (Eyitayo) who worked with Mimiko for eight years, Mimiko betrayed him. He has betrayed him now and gone to another person (state deputy governor and ZLP governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi).
Governor Akeredolu however said that it is not yet time for Mr. Jegede to take over the affairs of government from him.
“Jegede is a serious-minded person, the time is not now, but he is eminently qualified to be a governor, unlike people who I know that they are not qualified to be the governor of this state.
