What you should know about 31 petitions before Ondo Judicial Panel

AKURE – The chairman of the panel, retired Hon. Justice Adesola Sidiq while speaking at the inaugural sitting on December 3, 2020, said the eight-man Judicial Panel of Inquiry was constituted on October 20 and November 4, 2020, by the governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, pursuant to the Commission of Inquiry Law of Ondo State 2006 was to ensure that justice is done in addressing complaints of police brutality, extra-judicial killings, and infringement of the fundamental human rights of the great people of Ondo state by some officers of the disbanded SARS.

According to him, “the panel has so far received a total of thirty-one petitions from the members of the public and we shall continue to receive petitions as we intend to accord everyone an equal opportunity to attain justice as long as they are ready to pursue it before this panel, he stated”.

TECHNOCRAT MEDIA NEWS obtained the case list as prepared by the panel. The cases were divided into three sections which include cases on vandalization of properties, cases on police brutality, and others as listed in the document. The compilation as follows:

ODSG/JPI/01/2020 – a petition written and submitted by Engr. Ife Oyedele and Teslas Project Limited which has a description of the Remote and Wanton destruction of properties in Okitipupa and Akure requesting adequate compensation.

ODSG/JPI/02/2020 – a petition written and submitted by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with the description of the Destruction and Burning of their secretariat and loss of other properties as a fallout of violent protest against police brutality.

ODSG/JPI/03/2020 – here is another petition that was written and submitted by one Inspector Oladele Femi Alago who expressed the loss of his personal belongings at the burnt Aketi/Aiyedatiwa Campaign Office in Akure.

ODSG/JPI/04/2020 – Sargent Akpata Philip submitted this petition expressing the loss of personal belongings at the burnt Aketi/Aiyedatiwa Campaign Office in Akure.

ODSG/JPI/05/2020 – a petition was written and submitted by Mr. Kinane S.D, Esq. and the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ondo State Command describing the Wanton Destruction, Looting and Illegal Release of 58 inmates been held in legal custody at the Medium Security Custodial Centre at Okitipupa.

ODSG/JPI/06/2020 – Mr. Abdulazeez Adebayo submitted this petition bordering on the Encroachment of Farmland, Theft and Arson.

ODSG/JPI/07/2020 – The Ministry of Natural Resources submitted their petition on the Dastardly Attack, Vandalization of Main Building and looting of Okitipupa Forestry Office by hoodlums.

ODSG/JPI/08/2020 – This was a petition on the Malicious Damage and Destruction of a Ford Pick-up and Motorcycle owned by Mr. Evans Okata as written and submitted.

ODSG/JPI/09/2020 – another petition written and submitted by Chris Aham Ventures Nig. Ltd on the Vandalism and Collateral Damage of properties as well as equipment and storage facilities.

ODSG/JPI/10/2020 – PrinceProf. Dayo Faduyile Campaign Organization and Mr. Paul Oniyemofe submitted this petition describing the Destruction and Looting of properties at the Campaign Office during the ENDSARS protest.

ODSG/JPI/11/2020 –  Mr. Oladipo Matthew and Matmos International Limited submitted this petition detailing attack, looting and destruction of properties by hoodlums.

ODSG/JPI/12/2020 – Olasunbo Fasesin, Esq. and Human Legal Consult submitted this petition on the Destruction of Government property and personal effects of members of staff.

ODSG/JPI/14/2020 – Akinniyi Oluwasin submitted this petition to the panel describing the loss of personal belongings at the burnt Aketi/Aiyedatiwa Campaign Office in Akure.

ODSG/JPI/15/2020 – this petition was submitted by Ondo State Coalition on the premise of the Vandalization of the Office and the Looting of properties requesting adequate compensation.

ODSG/JPI/16/2020 – Mr. Akinmejiwa Olusola submitted this petition asking for compensation for the Vandalization and Looting of properties at the Classic Hotel in Ondo.

ODSG/JPI/17/2020 – this petition provides information on the Destruction and Looting of the Campaign Office by hoodlums written and submitted by Chief Olayide Adelami.

ODSG/JPI/18/2020 – Mr. Reuban Owoeye versus Defunct SARS Operatives and other persons included on the Violation of fundamental human rights, illegal detention and conversion of an Audi 80 Salon car and other matters.

ODSG/JPI/19/2020 – L.K Dare Esq., Mr. Ogunleye Olusegun Michael versus Defunct SARS Operatives on the Violation of fundamental human right, harassment, illegal arrest, torture, humiliation, detention and carting away of the gold container by the SARS Operatives.

ODSG/JPI/20/2020 – Dare Akinbo & Co, Sunday Ossai versus Defunct SARS Operatives on the Illegal arrest, and torture by the SARS Officers.

ODSG/JPI/21/2020 – Tope Temokun Chambers, Mrs. Queen Akarewan versus Defunct SARS Operatives on Unlawful arrest and extra-judicial killing of Christopher Akarewan by the Officers of the Nigerian Police Force.

ODSG/JPI/22/2020 – Hezekiah Law Firm and Legal Services, Mrs. Bodunwa Williams versus Defunct SARS Operatives on Denial of Access to Mr. James Kegbe and concealment of his whereabouts since 2016 and the possibility of murder.

ODSG/JPI/23/2020 – Hierateuma & Associates, Mrs. Jimoh Bosede versus defunct SARS Operatives on Extra-judicial killing and murder of Mr. Gbenga Aremo after unlawful arrest from a bar without committing any crime.

ODSG/JPI/24/2020 – Arowosafe Gbenga versus Ondo State Police Officers (OC D10, AC, CID, DC) on Bribery and Corruption, human rights abuse, fraud against Ondo State Police Officers.

ODSG/JPI/25/2020 – Comrade Omolayo O.O, Oladimeji Olatunbosun Ojo versus defunct SARS Operatives on an unlawful arrest, detention, and torture of petitioner by the men of IGP’s Special Tactical Squad.

ODSG/JPI/26/2020 – Super on High Group of Schools versus Federal Road Safety in Ondo state on unconstitutional seizure and illegal detainment of school’s car by the Road Safety Command in Ondo state.

ODSG/JPI/27/2020 – Lawal Alabi Esq., Mr. Ilesanmi Clement Owoyemi versus Special Anti-Kiddinapping Squad, Akure on an Illegal Arrest, improper investigation and the disappearance of Mr. Michael Owoyemi since December 29, 2019, by the Special anti-Kidnapping Squad, Ondo State Police Command.

ODSG/JPI/28/2020 – A.B Ogboye, Esq., Mr. Owoyemi Abiodun, Mrs. Kemi Yemi Abiodun (nee Olaleye) and three others versus defunct SARS Operatives on an illegal and unlawful arrest, detention, torture, humiliation, and extortion of petitioners by the defunct FSARS members.

ODSG/JPI/29/2020 – Chief Patrick Akinrotoye versus Officers of the Intelligence Response Team attached to the Inspector General of Police on an unlawful arrest, detention, extortion, assault, and a threat to life suffered in the hands of officers of the intelligence response team.

ODSG.JPI/30/2020 – Temo Temokun, Esq., Engr. Iwanefu Yemi James versus defunct SARS Operatives on an unlawful arrest and detention of the petitioner by the officers of the defunct FSARS and injustice meted out.

ODSG/JPI/31/2020 – A.V. Imoru, Esq., Abdul Suleuman, Momoh Abdulrazak, Omeiza Raheem versus Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Inspector Awodele Kehinde and inspector Julius Oliver on the case of police brutality, violation of fundamental human rights, harassment, intimidation, assault and infliction of life-threatening gunshot injuries and other matters on the petitioners.

ODSG/JPI/32/2020 – Akintola Eyitayo Taofik submitted this petition on the case of ill treatment meted out to the staff of the Police Force Education Unit and suggestive ways how to reform them.  

However, the panel has adopted Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for its public hearing on cases and petitions submitted to it by the members of the public until all cases were heard.
