AKURE– The Chairman of the House Committee on Security, Culture & Tourism and Cooperative Services in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr. Gbegudu Ololade who is representing Okitipupa Constituency II has hailed the governor of Ondo State Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for taking a bold step against Herdsmen occupying the state’s forest reserves.
In a statement made available to newsmen, he said “It’s no longer news that herdsmen have been perpetrators of many kidnappings, killings and destructions of properties especially farms within the state. The recent increase in the number of cases made it mandatory for an executive order against all odds”.
We the people of Ondo State have endured enough of their excesses and it gives us great relief that Mr Governor has proven to all stakeholders that he is up to the task of securing Ondo State.”
“In the past and even recently, we the people of Ondo State have lost our prominent sons and daughters in the hands of these deadly Herdsmen. From Pa Fasoranti’s daughter, Wife and children of the Orunja of Odigbo, FUTA Deputy Registrar and even a King, the Olu of Ifon and many more. Traveling on our roads are now deadly adventures.”
Mr. Gbegudu while recounting an experience he had alongside Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi (WEST) the majority leader of the House few months ago around Bolorunduro on their way back from a meeting at Ile-Oluji said “It was around 2 a.m in the dead of the night cattles were scattered across the width of the Ondo – Akure expressway. Our securities had to shoot into the air before those herdsmen cleared the way after several minutes of waiting. Obviously, any farm they get to that night will be destroyed. We also don’t know what could have happened if we were without securities.”
“The Land Use Act has vested authority over the use of lands within Ondo State in Mr. Governor and we are glad he is taking the bull by the horn.” he said.
