OKITIPUPA – Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has completed one of its abandoned Oyinitemi, Oluwatoyin sawmills through Ogunmade road projects that terminate at M & K junction in Okitipupa, Ondo state.

Our follow-up visit to the area showed that NDDC had mobilised the contractor to complete the abandoned project.

TECHNOCRAT MEDIA in 2020 under its FOLLOW THE PROJECT with support from MacArthur Foundation through HEDA Resource Centre had tracked and reported over twenty-nine projects that were abandoned by the Commission.

The report of the three months investigation was handed to Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, chairman house committee on NDDC at the house of representatives in Abuja at a meeting of a coalition of stakeholders from Ondo state in February.

The lawmaker had promised that he was going to ensure NDDC contractors come back to sites to complete their abandoned projects across the State.

This particular project in Okitipupa was one of the numerous projects that had been abandoned across the State.

Speaking with some of the residents of the area, Mr. Ototologun said “I am very happy that this project has finally been completed. Now, in this rainy season, it is very easy for us to move freely. I am very happy that even the front of my house is very neat now. Thanks to NDDC.”

Also, a fashion designer in the area, Mrs Aladejobi said “I am very happy now. Before, if you call a bike man, they will refuse to carry you because of the road. But now, it’s far better and the market is moving faster than before.”

Daisi Omokungbe who is the Director of Follow The Project said the development is a victory for the people and a leap against corruption. We hope to see other projects being completed across the Niger Delta, not just Ondo state.

He said the organisation will not rest as it will continue to contribute its quota to achieving sustainable infrastructural development in Nigeria through adequate tracking, monitoring, and reporting of public projects to ensure value for money.
