Muyiwa Akinyemi Babalola, a professor and the Nigeria Representative of the World Peace Organization (WPO) and Director General of the World Peace Negotiations Committee (WPNC), has called on presidential candidates to ensure peace in the 2023 general elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, he said “National Peace is a collective Peace for Citizenry.”

According to the statement, WPNC operates under World Peace Organization as a Committee to handle any negotiation subjects especially, peace and conflict resolutions, and political issues, to supervise and liberalise world negotiations.

Mr Babalola said that all the presidential candidates should portray a nationalistic outlook and patriotic postures as choices for every Nigerian.

He also used the medium to condemn the killings by gunmen of some worshippers at St’ Francis Catholic Church, Owo on Sunday in Nigeria. “Indeed, it massacre and horrific”.

He stated further that we should develop a force capable of spreading a massive and National wave of love and harmonious Peace throughout. We feel we are capable to overcome once and for all the negative energies of violence, hatred, war, terrorism, the blood of innocents, genocide, and death in general.

“Let’s end rudeness in Nigeria leading to poor management of aggressive impulses at local, state, and national levels.

“Let’s use all possible means and especially our intellectual literary talent and our ability to generate a free space for reflection thoughts and interchanging of ideas where respect for each other’s idea is the key to open the closed minds.

“Therefore, the idea is to create a new style of social harmony among us, and a technique to resolve conflicts peacefully.

“We only need to join hands around this dream to be actualised. We don’t want terrorism or war. We simply want green planet earth where we can see our children grow everywhere, without any distinction of race or faith.

“To this end, violent behaviour has become deeply integrated into modern society but examining Peace making strategies through a critical and academic perspective can assist in resolving violence in Nigeria.

“All these will lead to understanding, respect and would help in eliminating the causes of conflict, war, terror and would promote reconciliation and peace,” Mr Babalola said.
