Only two women, Ireti Kingibe and Harry Ipalibo Banigbo have been elected as senators to join the tenth senate of the national assembly.

The national assembly elections that were held alongside the presidential election on February 25 have produced only two women as senators-elect.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), 101 senators-elect have emerged out of the 109 senatorial districts across the country.

The two women are from Rivers state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

They include Ireti Heebah Kingibe of the FCT senatorial district won on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) and Harry Ipalibo Banigbo of the Rivers West senatorial district who won on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Though, more women may still join the list as INEC said supplementary elections would still hold in eight senatorial districts.

According to INEC, all senators-elect will receive their certificates of returns today in the Commission’s head office in their respective states, including the FCT.
