BREAKING: Ekweremadu, wife, bags jail term in UK for organ trafficking

Ike Ekweremadu, Nigeria’s former deputy senate president, has been sentenced to prison in the United Kingdom for organ trafficking.

Ike Ekweremadu, Nigeria’s former deputy senate president, has been sentenced to prison in the United Kingdom for organ trafficking.

In the judgement delivered by the Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey, UK, Ekweremadu is to serve a jail term of nine years and eight months in the UK prison, according to BBC.

His wife, Beatrice is to serve four years and five months jail term.

Their medical doctor, Obinna Obeta, who facilitated the organ trafficking process also bagged 10 years jail term.

The court verdict is the first of its kind under the Modern Slavery Act of the UK enacted in 2015.
