The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), says the total registrations in 2022 for the national identity number (NIN) stood at 22,492,748.
NBS said this in its national identify registration statistics published on Monday.
“This report contains records of Nigerians that were registered and issued national identity numbers (NIN) in 2022,” NBS stated.
“The figures reported cover the 36 states of the Federation, FCT and the Diaspora.
“Total registration and NIN issued stood at 22,492,748 in 2022, with 12,643,563 males and 9,849,185 females.
“The 36 states and FCT recorded 22, 237,022; while registrations in the diaspora were 255,726.
Kano, Lagos, Kaduna, Katsina and Ogun made the top five states with the highest number of registrations and issuance of identity numbers.
According to the report, Kano —2,444,224, Lagos —2,097,912, Kaduna —1,256,479, Katsina —1,156,149 and Ogun —1,075,942. ·
Bayelsa, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Cross River and Kogi recorded are the five states least with NIN registrations and issuance.
The figures are Bayelsa —100,525, Ekiti —141,534, Ebonyi —165,375, Cross-River —268,904 and Kogi —308,681. ·
NBS added that registrations and issuance of identity numbers in the diaspora totalled 255,726, distributed among 140,496 males and 115,230 females. ·
“In 2022, the North-West Zone recorded the highest number of registrations and NIN issued with 7,207,695, while the South-East recorded the least with 1,793,373. · In 2022, total registrations and NIN issued were 22,492,748, a decrease of 16.85% relative to 27,052,148 in 2022”.
