Agora Policy announces maiden policy analysis and advocacy workshop

Agora Policy, a Nigerian think tank committed to finding practical solutions to urgent national challenges, has announced its maiden two-day workshop on policy analysis and advocacy.

In a statement published on its website, 60 competitively-selected professionals from civil society organisations, the media, government and research institutions will participate in the workshop.

According to Agora, the workshop, supported by the MacArthur Foundation will take place on the 5th and 6th of September 2023 in Abuja, Nigeria to be followed by another one in Lagos, and one or two more in other parts of the country which dates shall be announced.

“The policy analysis and advocacy workshop is designed to equip early to mid-career participants with skills and knowledge needed to undertake evidence-based and impactful policy analysis and advocacy within the Nigerian context, especially at a time the country is grappling with complex economic, governance, social and environmental issues,” the statement reads in part.

“The workshop will feature a diverse lineup of esteemed resource persons, including policy experts and practitioners from notable institutions and organisations such as DAI, Policy Innovation Centre, University of Ibadan, University of Jos, University of Abuja, Baze University and Yiaga Africa.

“During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals, exchange ideas among themselves, and develop practical strategies to drive positive policy change in Nigeria through policy analysis and advocacy.

“The workshop will cover three major areas: theoretical/foundational aspects of public policy, practical tools and tips for policy analysis and advocacy, and case studies/experience-sharing on effective policy analysis and policy advocacy.”

Agora Policy noted that the workshops are part of its commitment to facilitating the multiplication and diffusion of expertise among the different stakeholders in the public policy space in Nigeria. 

It added that the workshops are geared toward engendering the adoption, implementation and sustenance of appropriate, effective and impactful public policies in the country.
