Technocrat Innovations Plus Ltd, the parent company of TechnocratMedia, has announced a change of name of the online newspaper to become DailyAgent.

The Board of Directors of the company announced the development in a statement on Monday.

According to Daisi Omokungbe, founder and chief executive officer, said the change of name became very important as part of efforts in repositioning the medium for improved impact and profitability.

“In the last five years, our medium has contributed to accountability and solution journalism, especially in the areas of tracking and reporting the implementation of public projects across grassroots communities, exposing abandoned projects and corrupt practices in procurement and diversion of public funds,” Omokungbe said.

“Some of these achievements we recorded were with the support of the MacArthur Foundation and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSWIA) through the HEDA Resource Centre in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

“Today, some communities in Ondo state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are enjoining critical social amenities and facilities because our reports contributed to holding the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), some lawmakers and agencies of the federal government to complete the projects for the people.”

He noted that the company recognizes the impact of technology on media and journalism, hence the need to improve its strategies to harness the potential of the industry and to improve its impact-making capacities.

Omokungbe stressed that promoting dissent voices, access to information, climate reporting poor public accountability and transparency, and addressing fake news, misinformation, and disinformation are issues of great concern to citizen’s participation in African democracy and development.

He said the worrisome aspect is the exclusion of youth, women, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and marginalized local communities in public governance.

He said the company will strive to become the foremost independent media institution offering platforms, empowerment and products to elicit public participation and inclusion in Africa’s democracy and development.

“We have a new mission of promoting dissent voices, access and freedom of information, accountable and sustainable democracy through the use of data analytics, media-technology tools and products, investigative journalism and research to make citizens and public institutions become agents of change to act constructively and responsibly,” he said.

He added that readers and audiences should expect more from DailyAgent going forward.

The company also announced the launch of its independent fact-checking arm to contribute to the fight against fake news, misinformation and disinformation.
