Senate confirms new auditor-general, 7 INEC’s resident electoral commissioners

The upper chamber of the National Assembly has approved the appointment of Shaakaa Chira as Auditor General for the Federation (AuGF).

The upper chamber of the National Assembly has approved the appointment of Shaakaa Chira as Auditor General for the Federation (AuGF).

Chira who hails from Taraba state was confirmed on Wednesday after his screening by the Senate.

October 20, President Bola Tinubu approved the appointment of Chira as the substantive AuGF following the recommendation of the Federal Civil Service Commission and was forwarded to the Senate for screening and approval.

The red chamber also approved the appointment of seven out of the ten nominees of President Tinubu as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). 

They include Etekamba Umoren, Akwa-Ibom; Isha Ehimeakne, Edo; Barrister Oluwatoyin Babalola, Ekiti; Abubakar Ahmed, Gombe; Shehu Wahab, Kwara; Aminu Idris, Nasarawa; and Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq, Niger.

The three nominees who were not confirmed are yet to appear for screening.
