The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accredited 171,922 party members to elect the candidate for the party ahead of the governorship election scheduled for November in Ondo state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed the election for November 16 2024 while the final list of party candidates will be published on June 18, 2024.
APC in its plan to elect its candidate, the national working committee (NWC) set Saturday, April 20 2024 for the conduct of its primary election.
In the early hours of today, party members in all the local government areas of the state were moving to the respective locations where the election will be held in the 2023 wards.
The NWC of the party during the week announced the committee to conduct the primary election led by the governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo.
Other members of the committee include a former Oyo deputy governor, Iyiola Oladokun; Lekan Mustapha, Adefunmilayo Tejuoso; Margaret Duru and Dr. Sani Danjuma.
Voting activities have commenced in some wards across the state.
The primary has the governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa and 15 other aspirants are in the race to clinch the party’s ticket.
The party adopted the direct mode and the exercise is to take place simultaneously in 203 wards in the 18 local government areas of the state.
The aspirants in the race include a total of 14 males while two are females with fourteen of the 16 aspirants from the south senatorial district, while Ondo North and Ondo Central have an aspirant each.
