Members of the Cross River State House of Assembly have impeached the speaker, Elvert Ekom Ayambem.
Ayambem was impeached by seventeen members of the House at Wednesday’s plenary following allegations of misappropriation of funds.
Effiom Ekarika, who represents Calabar South 1 Constituency moved the motion for his impeachment.
Omang Charles Omang who is representing the Bekwarra state constituency seconded the motion and the speaker was removed.
The development led to a fight between members of the House.
Ayambem was elected Speaker of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly in June 2023.
