President Bola Tinubu on Monday defended the size of his 48-member cabinet, responding to critics who described it as “bloated.” 

During a media chat at his residence in Bourdillon, Ikoyi, Lagos, Tinubu stated that he was “not ready to shrink” the size of his cabinet.

He emphasized that efficiency was the primary factor in his selection of ministers.

Tinubu also addressed the controversial decision to remove the petrol subsidy in May 2023, reiterating that Nigeria could no longer afford to subsidize fuel for neighbouring countries. 

He expressed no regrets about the move, asserting that it was necessary for the country’s economic stability.

“I don’t have any regrets whatsoever in removing petrol subsidy. We are spending our future, we were just deceiving ourselves, that reform was necessary,” he told reporters.
