The Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule has ordered the governor of the State, Siminalayi Fubara to present the 2025 budget within 48 hours.

The lawmakers took this decision following the judgement of the Supreme Court on Friday.

The political crisis in the State took a new dimension after the apex court ordered the governor to present the state’s budget to the Martin Amaewhule-led State House of Assembly.

However, a statement by the commissioner for information, Joe Johnson, said the judgement doesn’t address the issue of the defection of Amaewhule and 26 others from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, Amaewhule and 26 others are not members of the Rivers State House of Assembly until the suit before a federal high court in Port Harcourt decides on the matter.
