The Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says the governor of the State, Rotimi Akeredolu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are buying Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVC).
The opposition party said the governor and his party are buying the PVCs ahead of the 2023 general elections.
In a statement signed by Leye Igbagbo, PDP director of media and publicity on Friday, said APC and the governor have hatched a very wicked plan to compromise the elections.
“Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ondo State Chapter uncovered the ongoing exercise of asking unsuspecting voters to submit their voter’s card and collect 20,000 naira. The details of the PVCs are immediately keyed into a database which will be used to perpetrate the havoc,” the statement reads.
“It is clear that Akeredolu and his party have failed the people of Ondo State and will be roundly rejected at the polls. With the reality of failure staring them in the face, the only option open to them in their desperation is to resort to this undemocratic and barbaric act.
“In the last three days, the former SITA office, opposite the Police Officers Mess on Adekunle Ajasin road, Akure has experienced a beehive of activities with the supervision of Amotekun Corps officers where motorcyclists and market women have been deceived to come and collect 20,000 empowerment from the State Government.
“At about noon today, it was persons from Owo Local Government Area were being attended to as the outside looked like a market. Akeredolu has weaponised hunger and this is what he is taking advantage of.
Mr Igbagbo added that the state government that is owing workers more than three months’ salaries is buying PVC at N20,000 each.
“A government that is owing more than three months’ salary arrears has as much as 20,000 to pay for one PVC before elections.
“Our party calls on Security Agents to as a matter of urgency call Akeredolu and APC to order as this plot has the capacity to compromise the 2023 elections,” he said.
Our efforts to get the chief press secretary to the governor to speak on the matter proved abortive as he didn’t respond to calls and WhatsApp messages after two hours.
