Court has adjourned the arraignment of Godwin Emefiele, suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to August 23.

On Tuesday, Mohammed Abubakar, the director of public prosecution (DPP) of the federation, said the federal government had filed 20 fresh charges against Godwin Emefiele, suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The arraignment was initially scheduled for Thursday after the federal government withdrew illegal possession of arms and filed 20 fresh charges against the suspended apex bank chief.

The case was adjourned due to the absence of some of the defendants joined in the charge in court.

Emefiele was charged alongside Sa’adatu Yaro, a female CBN employee, and her company, April 1616 Investment Limited, on 20 charges bordering on procurement fraud, conspiracy and conferring corrupt advantages.
