The Ondo State House of Assembly has confirmed Dr Olayide Adelami as the deputy governor of Ondo State.
He was screened and confirmed at a plenary on Thursday presided over by the speaker, Olamide Oladiji.
DAILYAGENT reports that Governor Aiyedatiwa had forwarded Adelami’s name for screening and consideration by the house on Wednesday.
Adelami was screened at the assembly complex after the clerk of the house, Jaiyeola Benjamin read the letter sent to the House by Governor Aiyedatiwa for the consideration of the nominees for the vacant position of Deputy Governor.
The deputy speaker Prince Abayomi Akinruntan who submitted the report to the screening committee recommended the confirmation of Adelami for the office of the deputy governor.
He said the nominee had been properly screened.
Akinruntan said the nominee responded to all questions raised by the committee, adding that the nominee has a clear understanding of the responsibilities of the office.
He also added that he possess the required academic qualifications, physically, mentally and emotionally stable and fit to accomplish the task.
The report also stated that he possess the required experience, charisma and the much needed exposure to function effectively.
Moving the motion for the consideration of the report, majority leader Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi moved that the report be considered and the nominees be confirmed.
The motion was seconded by Felix Afe, representing Akoko North West II.
The speaker, Oladiji, who ruled for the confirmation congratulated Adelami on his new office.
He urged the deputy governor to be committed and pledged the support of the assembly to the executive arm for the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of the State.
Responding, Adelami appreciated Governor Aiyedatiwa for his nomination and promised not to betray his emotion and confidence in him.
He thanked the lawmakers for their efforts in screening and confirming his nomination for the office.
