#KnowYourLawmakers: Technocrat Media Commences Legislative Engagement with Ondo Lawmakers

In a press release made available by Oludaisi Omokungbe, the Chief Executive Officer, explained that the media legislative engagement program #KnowYourLawmakers is aimed at creating credible platforms to connect Ondo lawmakers with citizens of the state and by extension, Nigerians and the rest of the world to spark conversations on legislative issues, migration, poverty, and governance.

Technocrat Media is an independent media and communications organization amplifying new narratives to inspire the greatest audience for social actions with the mission of helping targets amplify their reach to the audience while leading social, accountability, transparency and citizen reporting programs”.

The program, #KnowYourLawmakers which is in tandem with Sustainable Development Goal 16 of the United Nations for promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, providing access to justice for all and building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels is expected to empower citizens to influence their lawmakers.

This civic and legislative initiative is to expose state lawmakers to their constituents and by extension, the citizens of Nigeria with the bottom-line goal of empowering ordinary citizens to influence their lawmakers to pursue inclusion, openness and transparency of the legislature towards citizen-oriented legislation, and as well to provide credible platforms using emerging media for lawmakers’ public credibility and coordinate conversations on legislative matters and governance in Ondo State.

In a preparatory meeting with the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Mr. Olugbenga Omole, he praised the initiative. His words “As lawmakers, we are public servants. Nothing about us and our activities should be hidden from the public and our constituents”.

Another Committee member who is representing Ese-Odo constituency, Mr. Success Taiwo, said: “Our best efforts as lawmakers will not yield results if we fail to engage our constituents via credible platforms”

The media series is to be featured on Blogs, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter with specially crafted graphics starting from September 2, 2019, through September 30, 2019, as executive profiles, official portraits, constituencies, political parties, House Committee(s), phone numbers, addresses of constituency offices and email addresses of lawmakers shall be published to provoke legislative conversations.

We encourage active citizens in Ondo state to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to join the conversations. Mr. Omokungbe, who is a fellow of the Nigeria School on Internet Governance urge Nigerians to ensure digital diplomacy while engaging the lawmakers via online platforms.
