#KnowYourLawmakers: The man; Akogun Olugbenga Omole

Mr. Olugbenga Akinola Omole was born in the early 70’s to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs Oloruntosin Omole of Osan Quarters Agba in Oka Akoko South West Local Government of Ondo State. He currently represents Akoko South West Constituency I and he is the Chairman, the House Committee on Information at the Ondo State House of Assembly.

Mr. Olugbenga Omole had his elementary education at Saint John’s & Mary Demonstration Primary School, Owo, between 1977 to 1983. He attended Owo High School, Owo, for his secondary education between 1983 to 1988. He proceeded to the Federal School of Arts and Science, Ondo, for his Higher School Certificate from 1989 to 1991. Olugbenga obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Geography from the University of Ilorin in 1997. He observed his one-year mandatory National Youth Service in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State between 1998 to 1999.  Olugbenga also attended Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko where he bagged a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.

EXPERIENCE

Between 2001 to 2003, Mr. Omole served as Personal Assistant in charge of Youth and Union Matters to the then Governor of Ondo State, Late Chief Adebayo Adefarati as a result of his positive impact amongst the various youth groups in the State. He was appointed by Ondo State Football Agency where he served as the Camp Commandant and Welfare Officer of Sunshine Stars Football Club between September 2009 to December 2011. Over the years, he has worked as a football Analyst on radio and television stations across the country, this combined with his role at Sunshine Stars Football Club for two football seasons has deepened his knowledge on the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Mr. Omole is the Chief Executive Officer of an Award-winning company, Hero Communication, and Events Management and is devoted to the management of his family’s expansive farming business.

HIS POLITICAL JOURNEY

Akogun as he is popularly called, he is an embodiment of competence, dedication, loyalty, integrity, and hard work. He served as the Chairman of the Youth Directorate Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organization in Ondo State in 2015 and later as the Coordinator of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in Akoko South West Local Government who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in 2016 Governorship election in Ondo State.

The Oka-Akoko Football administrator and politician has been a member of both the Campaign for Democracy (CD) and Committee for Defence of Human Rights (DCHR) since 1995, also, a foundation member of Ondo State Youth in Politics (OYIP) and served as the Publicity Secretary of Ondo State Youth Forum since 2001. He was also a foundation member of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) which later metamorphosized into the All Progressives Congress (APC). Omole is a member of the Media and Publicity Committee of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State as well as the State Coordinator for Broom for Every Home. He is the Southwest Zonal Coordinator of Nigeria Youth for Better Democracy. Olugbenga also served as a member of the Directorate of Youth Affairs for the Akeredolu/Ajayi Campaign Committee in 2016. His primary objective in politics is to use all his God-given resources and contacts to develop Oka, his hometown. He solely sponsored a Football Competition amongst the quarters and various clubs in Oka for Oka Day 2018, a veritable avenue to foster unity and empowerment of Oka youth through sports. Football scouts, coaches and an ex-Nigeria international were on the ground during the final match with prizes given to deserving footballers.

Akogun is the immediate past Education Secretary of Akoko South West Local Government. Currently, as a member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, he is serving in the following Committees:

  • Chairman, House Committee on Information
  • Vice-Chairman, House Committee on Works and Infrastructures
  • Member, House Committee on Governor’s Office and Protocols
  • Member, House Committee on Procurement and Special Duties
  • Member, House Committee on Cash Allocation and Welfare
  • Member, House Committee on Finance and Appropriations
  • Member, House Committee on Judiciary, Public Petitions, Establishments and Service Matters

AWARDS

Mr. Omole has over the years been a recipient of many awards, the latest being the Grassroots Development Award by the Publishers of Trace Magazine.

He has a flair for writing especially on social media platforms and he is the South-West Coordinator of Nigeria Social Media Forum. He is a Christian and a member of the Ebenezer African Church, Agba, Oka Akoko and happily married with children.
