Ondo State Deputy Governor and the governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the forthcoming election, Mr. Alfred Agboola Ajayi has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress(APC) will lose the Southern Senatorial district in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Mr. Ajayi said Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, a member and the governorship candidate of the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC), has performed below the people’s expectation in the last three years while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) does not have an organized structure to win the election.
The deputy governor made this known while receiving a former governorship aspirant, Mr. Banji Okunomo, a former chairman of the local government, Mr. Solomon Bitire, and new members who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), in Okitipupa Local Government.
Also receiving members who newly defected from the APC, led by the party’s secretary in Akure South, Mr. Olukayode Abiodun, Mr. Ajayi said the people will vote out Akeredolu in October 10 election because he has failed to meet the needs of the people.
Mr. Ajayi applauded Mr. Okunomo for his display of patriotism, and for choosing the interest of the state over his personal interest.
He further said, “PDP and APC are dead in Ondo South. We can postpone the burial ceremony, but you cannot wake up the dead political parties.”
In his response, Mr. Okunomo said he left the PDP for ZLP because he saw the need for the state to be rescued from the misrule of Governor Akeredolu.
According to Mr. Okunomo, he would be leaving the PDP officially with over 15,000 members across the 18 local governments, on a later date.
He said, “I contested with Ajayi in PDP. He was the newest in the PDP race and came second. He contested within three weeks. The youths have the opportunity now to elect one of us.
“We don’t want someone who will increase the school fees. We don’t want a governor who will make life difficult for the people of Ondo State.
“The PDP made the mistake of 2016 by presenting a candidate from the wrong zone. The PDP lost in 2016 and will lose in this election because it failed to look at the local content of zoning.
“It is not that PDP is not a good party but the handlers have mismanaged the fortune of the party.”
