The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) had presented voters register to thirteen political parties that will be participating in the forthcoming October 10 governorship election in Ondo State.
While presenting the electronic format register to the representatives of the political parties, INEC’s National Commissioner in charge of Ondo, Ogun, and Lagos states, Mr. Adekunle Ogunmola said the commission is ready to conduct a credible election in the state.
Mr. Ogunmola assured the representatives of the political parties that INEC would be transparent, unbiased, and independent while conducting the election.
Independent Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ondo State, Mr. Rufus Akeju disclosed that the pandemic almost disrupted the commission’s preparations for the election.
He stated that the commission came up with a scheme titled “Policy on conducting elections in the context of COVID -19 pandemic” to reduce the challenges of continuous suspension of voter’s registration, issuance of permanent voter cards, transfer of voter’s registration, and replacement of lost PVCs.
Mr. Akeju revealed that 1,478,460 permanent voter cards have been distributed while 372,888 permanent voter cards have not been collected. He added that the commission would give room for voters registration once the pandemic subsides.
The qualified political parties are; A.A, AAC, Accord, ADP, APC, APM, APP, Labour Party, NNPP, NRM, PDP, PRP, and Z LP.
