An Akure Magistrate court has ordered the remand of seven suspected political thugs at the Nigerian Correctional Service Centre, Olokuta, Akure.
The suspects were arrested by men of the Nigerian Police Force, last week in a branded vehicle belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with locally made arms at Ifon, Ose Local Government.
According to SunshineTruth, the Director of Public Prosecution, Grace Olowoporoku, told the court that the seven suspects were arrested with seven locally made single and double barrel guns with live cartridges. He said they committed an offense of felony contrary to and punishable under section 3 (1) of the robbery and firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R11 Vol. 14 Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
Mr. Olowoporoku also implored the court to remand the suspects since the case is not within its jurisdiction to entertain the case.
The magistrate, Tope Aladejana ordered that the suspects should be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Olokuta until the police conclude the investigation. The hearing was also adjourned to October 22, 2020.
The Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the forthcoming governorship election, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede had earlier denied knowing the suspected thugs.
