ABUJA – The 63-year old Saleh Mamman landed in an Abuja hospital after receiving the shock of his sack by President Muhammadu Buhari.
On Wednesday, the news of the sack of two ministers by President Muhammadu Buhari came to many Nigerians as a shock — and to one of the ministers affected who landed in the hospital.
The sacked power minister collapsed in Abuja on September 1 on hearing the news that he had been sacked by the president.
TECHNOCRAT MEDIA had reported that the sack also affected the Agric. minister Sabo Nanono, who sometimes approved N30m for a Friday mosque construction in a Borno IDP camp.
Mamman was appointed in 2019, reportedly fired for his weak performance following self-assessment by the cabinet.
“He wasn’t expecting to be fired so soon,” a family member told the People Gazette that first reported it.
“He collapsed yesterday and was immediately hospitalised,”
The online news platform added the 63-year-old has been living at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja for more than three weeks on the bills of some powerful interests in the power sector.

Femi Adesina, a presidential spokesperson, says the sacking of two ministers and the reshuffling that followed is a way to re-energising the Buhari administration.
He spoke on Sunrise Daily Channels Television’s programme on Thursday, Adesina said the ministers were not removed owing to weak or poor performance but to consolidate on “legacy performance”.
“Matter of fact is that the president said he had reviewed the performance of the cabinet and needed to reinvigorate for the last run. He said he wanted to consolidate on legacy performance and projects,” he said.
“He needed some reinvigoration but he didn’t say anything about weak or poor performance.”
The president’s spokesperson also said the two ministries that are affected have areas that need improvement, noting that the president’s action must have been informed by the desire to revamp these areas.
“If you look at the nine priority areas, you will see that as much as the ministers did in my own esteem, there are areas of improvement in those two sectors,” he said.
“The president must have what he wants to achieve in those two areas within the 20 months left in government and maybe that is why he did what he did. But it was by no means a red card on their performance.”
