EFCC arraigns former Imo Governor, Okorocha on a 17-count charge over N2.9bn fraud

Rochas Okorocha, former governor of Imo State has been arraigned on a 17-count charge by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Rochas Okorocha, former governor of Imo State has been arraigned on a 17-count charge by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mr Okorocha who is a presidential hopeful on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was brought before a Federal High Court on Monday in Abuja.

According to Channels Television, the courtroom was already filled to capacity as of 9 am, with several others standing as they await the commencement of the proceedings by the trial judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo.

EFCC is prosecuting the former governor on a 17-count charge to the tune of N2.9 billion which he committed while he was serving as governor of Imo state.

Mr Okorocha was accused of conspiring with others, including a member of the APC and five companies to steal from public coffers, although he has since denied any wrongdoing.

He was arrested last Tuesday when the operatives of the EFCC forcefully broke into his Abuja residence after several hours of endless waiting in his compound.
