Owo Attack: Catholic holds mass burial for 40 victims as 74 others injured still receiving treatments

The Catholic Diocese of Ondo has given forty victims who died in the Owo church attack by terrorists a funeral mass. 

The mass which is held at Mydas Resort and Hotels, Owo, is expected to be followed by interment at the new cemetery of the church. 

On June 5, terrorists attacked St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, leaving no fewer than 40 people dead while seventy-five others who sustained injuries are still receiving treatments at the Federal Medical Centre and the St. Louis Catholic Hospital both in Owo and some other private hospitals in the state.

The governor of the State, Rotimi Akeredolu, his wife Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, and other public officials are attending the funeral service.

So far, the state government has received donations for the victims. Notable among the donations include N75m by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and N10m by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 general elections.
Meanwhile, the federal government has linked the attack with the Islamic State, West African Province, ISWAP.
