Funke Akindele, a Nollywood actress, popularly known as Jenifer, has been named the Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate for the 2023 election.
Dr Olajide Adediran, popularly called Jandor, announced and presented Funke Akindele, as his running mate.
The actress also confirmed her deputy governorship candidacy in a video on her verified Instagram page on Tuesday.
She emerged after she was considered to have had better chances of helping the party to win the election than the other two of the shortlisted candidates – Rhodes-Vivour and Kolawole – are from Lagos West.
The duo is from the same senatorial district as Jandor, which negatively affected their chances against the actress.
Ms Akindele, from Ikorodu division, Lagos East Senatorial District like Dr Obafemi Hamzat who is the incumbent deputy governor of the state.
Last month, Rivers state African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Tonte Ibraye also nominated Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh as his running mate.
