Ikeja Electric has announced a reduction of electricity tariff for Band A customers that was increased weeks ago.

The company announced the cut in the tariff from N225 kilowatt hour to N206 kilowatt.

According to the company, the development was stated in the May 2024 supplementary order by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

“Dear esteemed customers, please be informed of the downward tariff review of our Band A feeders from N225/KWH to N206.80/KWH effective 6th May 2024 with guaranteed availability of 20-24hrs supply daily,” the public issued by Ikeja Electric reads.

The notice also added that the tariff for Bands B, C, D, and E remains unchanged.

In April, NERC approved an upward review for Band A customers from N68 to N225/KWH.

NERC said following the increase, electricity distribution companies (DisCos) are mandated to ensure customers under the band get at least 20 hours of power supply daily.

The move received a lot of reactions from different categories of stakeholders, describing it as a move to put more pressure on Nigerians.
