#KnowYourLawmakers: Meet Sunday Olajide representing Akure South Constituency II at ODHA

Mr. David Sunday Olajide attended Salvation Army Primary School as well as Akure Secondary Commercial School both in Akure. He later proceeded to the then Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti now Ekiti State University where he studied Economics and Education. He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife and also holds another Masters Degree in Educational Management the prestigious the University of Ibadan. He is currently the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Ondo State House of Assembly.

HIS EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Mr. David Sunday Olajide was born in 1970 to the family of Chief and Mrs. Olajide Abidakun, in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State. He attended Salvation Army Primary School as well as Akure Secondary Commercial School both in Akure. He later proceeded to the then Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti now Ekiti State University where he studied Economics and Education. He later acquired other academic qualifications and had a Master Degree in Business Administration from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife and the prestigious University of Ibadan where he also bagged a Master Degree in Educational Management. He is a member of different Professional Bodies among which are; The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, and Certified Pension Institute of Nigeria.

HIS EXPERIENCE

He started his work carrier in Magna Mortgage Bank and later worked as an Investment Analyst and Stockbroker with Magnartis Finance and Investment Ltd. With over 25 years of working experience in Banking and Finance, he is well-grounded in both Money and Capital Market operations. A member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, he is a dealing member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. He is highly experienced in a wide range of Financial Services and other areas of Financial Intermediations, which include but not limited to;

  • Corporate and Public Sector Project Finance Structuring
  • Finance and Investment Advisory Services
  • Restructuring and Privatization
  • Public Assets Commercialization
  • Merger and Acquisition, Restructuring and Divestment
  • Public-Private Partnership Project arrangement and Financing
  • Fiscal Planning and Budgeting, Budget Implementation and Control
  • Project Implementation and Evaluation
  • Financial Regulatory Compliance Advice.

Mr. Olajide can best be described as a consummate entrepreneur, financial analyst and investment adviser with a cut-edge attribute.

HIS POLITICAL JOURNEY

He joined politics in 2014 and in 2015 won a general election under the umbrella of All Progressives Congress (APC) to represent the good people of Akure South Constituency II in Ondo State House of Assembly. He was nominated and elected as minority Whip immediately after the inauguration in June 2015. He was made the Chairman, House Committee on Accelerated Poverty Alleviation and also Vice-Chairman, House Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, Inter-governmental Affairs and Multi-lateral relations. In April 2017, he became the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation as well as the Chairman, Public Accounts Committee.

He successfully contested re-election into the State House of Assembly on March 2019 to become one of the ranking members of Ondo State Parliament. He still retains his position as the Chairman of Finance and Appropriation Committee as well as a formidable member of several Standing Committee and Adhoc Committees of the House. He is well trained and highly versed in parliamentary procedures, legislative Order, Party Philosophy, Grassroots Politics, and Qualitative representation.

He had used his position positively well that he attracted so many developmental projects and grants from development partners and other donor agencies around the world to the benefit of Ondo State House of Assembly as an Institution and to Ondo State government. As a grassroots politician, he had impacted the people of his constituency with a series of empowerments, job opportunities, and good representation.

Mr. Sunday Olajide is sociable, friendly, humble, unassuming, honest, hardworking and very articulate. He is a member of several national and international social and leadership organizations. He is a Senator of the Junior Chamber International (JCI), an international leadership training organization; Club Elan among others. Olajide was among the prominent Akure indigenes of Ooye Development Initiatives that was honoured and decorated as “Omo Owa, Omo Ekun” by the Deji Alayeluwa, Oba Aladetoyinbo the Odundun II of Akure kingdom.

He is happily married and blessed with children.
