AKURE – The Southwest Governors meeting today with the members of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria at the Dome, Akure in the Capital of Ondo State saw the need for effective security over incessant killings, kidnapping, and farmer destructions in the southwest.
In the course of the meeting, the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde urged all communities to work together to fight the common enemies which he mentioned to kidnappers, robbers, and some herders.
In his statement, Makinde said, ” We will not use criminality to solve another criminality.”
“We will continue to encourage our people to work together to face our common criminals.
“This fight is not all about political scores but rather a unity fight”
Also, the Kebbi state governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, who was a representative of Miyetti Allah’s Cattle Breeders appealed to the media to convene what was being said in the meeting correctly without causing chaos in the country.
On his part, Governor Akeredolu emphasized the fact that he did not ask anybody to leave but showed concerns about the illegal occupants in the state forest reserves.
In his address, He said ” I did not ask anybody to leave. “
The meeting which was initiated and chaired by the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has said the meeting was for national integration and security.
The meeting brought about some resolutions that were read by Governor Fayemi include:
Following the executive order by Rotimi Akeredolu to the meeting of Egbira and the Fulani herdsmen in the state forest reserve to vacate within 7 days with effect from Monday 18th January 2021.
The meeting resolved that Security is the primary goal of the government as enshrined in the constitution;
The order of the Ondo State governor was misconstrued and misconceived by the media, he only ordered those occupying the state’s forest reserves illegally to vacate not the Fulani herdsmen to vacate the state;
Criminals should be apprehended no matter their ethnic group;
Jointly waging war against criminality;
Henceforth night grazing should be banned;
Under Age grazing should be banned;
Reduce opportunities for criminality.
In attendance were Governor Seyi Makinde, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Governor Kayode Fayemi, Former Deputy Governor Iyiola Omisore, Governor Ilerioluwa Oyetola, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and the large presence of the Fulani ethnic group.
