Hamzat Lawal, activist and founder of Connected Development (CODE) says President Muhammadu Buhari is failing to protect Nigerians and must act now.
Mr Lawal was reacting to the incident of attack on worshippers on Sunday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, and said it is a dark moment for Nigerians.
“I sympathise with people who have lost loved ones dear to them. I am deeply sorry for what has happened in Owo, Ondo State,” he said.
The activist said his organisation has worked closely with the peace loving people of the state in tracking government spending.
“I can’t just imagine what each and every one of you is going through right now.
“The current state of insecurity is unacceptable. The other day, it was a train attack and people were adopted. We still have young people in captivity in Boko Haram’s den.
“Mr President, what are you doing about it?
“Mr President, you need to move from condemning these attacks to acting.”
He added that in 2015, Nigerians elected President Muhammadu Buhari into office because he promised to secure them.
“In 2019, you got re-elected again. Mr President, you’re failing. If the people around you are not telling you, I am telling you that you’re failing.
“These criminals, terrorists, and unknown gunmen will continue these attacks if you don’t act now.”
He also said under Mr Buhari’s watch as the chief security officer of Nigeria, nowhere is safe.
“The airports, the roads, marketplace, train stations, and our worship centers — churches and mosques, nowhere is safe again under your watch, Mr President. Act Now,” Mr Lawal said.
