Lagos, Nigeria
Dr Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, has met with stakeholders in Lagos to discuss the country’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (NAIS).
Tijani disclosed this in a post on his official LinkedIn account on Tuesday.
“Today in Lagos, we took a major step forward in shaping Nigeria’s AI future with the launch of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy—a bold plan for inclusive innovation and responsible AI adoption.
“As part of the AI Collective mandate, we convened key industry stakeholders, top AI leaders, startups, and ecosystem enablers to socialise the National AI Strategy,” the minister wrote.
According to him, the AI Collective also launched a number of initiatives which include “The Leadership Learning Series: a series of executive short-byte AI training sessions for industry leaders” and “The Diaspora-Connect: a strategic initiative to engage the Nigerian AI diaspora in supporting local talent and ecosystem development, especially for 3MTT mentoring.”
Others are “The AI for Social Good showcase: a compilation of Use Cases, featuring outstanding AI innovations from Nigeria and other globally recognised and award-winning industry/academic works.”
“The AI Collective Sectoral Network: various Communities of Practice to drive industry-led AI adoption.”
According to the minister, “This is another milestone in our collaborative journey to position Nigeria as a leading force in AI across Africa and the world.”
He thanked partners for their ongoing support as the country is providing the enabling environment to leverage AI to drive productivity in critical sectors of our economy towards a $1 trillion economy.
The Nigerian AI Collective is a collection of stakeholders which envision a future where Nigeria harnesses the power of AI to drive economic prosperity, innovation, and social development, positioning itself as a leading force in AI for good on the African continent and globally.
In October 2024, Luminate, a global philanthropy, announced a grant of $1.5M for the Nigerian AI Collective to drive its initiatives.
